My HEAL Journey: The Cost of Freedom

Freedom doesn’t come free. There is a cost for freedom from food and body image issues. It’s different for everyone on their journey. Different for each struggle. For me the cost of being free is saying no to my desire for extra food my body doesn’t need. It’s focusing my thoughts upward rather than inward. It’s exercising discipline, yet basking in God’s grace.

But the cost of being in bondage is greater than the cost of being free. The cost of staying in bondage to to unhealthy patters is a lack of peace of mind, despair and even one’s health.

I was looking through pictures of when I felt free (or free-er I should say) of the struggle of body image and weight issues. I love this shot because it captures me doing something I was made to do. I also believe I was at a healthy-for-me weight and I want to get back there. I’m not free where I’m at, though I do believe I am a work of art – marvelously created no matter what my body size or shape.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be burdened by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1

We each must ask ourselves this question with brutal honesty – are we willing to pay the price to experience freedom? Right now, I’m worried I’m not ready, but I’m praying I get there….soon.

What do you need to experience freedom from in your life? Are you willing to pray the price?
