The Day You Realize Your Prettiest Days are Over

A favorite saying of my dad’s has always been “the older I get, the better I was.”

After getting tagged in a not-so-flattering picture for my whole Facebook network to see (it’s been a common occurrence lately), I caught myself thinking: the older I get the prettier I was.

I know, I know, it’s something you might be thinking I shouldn’t say given the line of work I’m in, but I’m just being real. Nine months shy of thirty, my cellulite is expanding, my waist has widened, “smile lines” are appearing and guys have stopped looking. Just as an Olympic athlete passes her prime, I’m sad to admit it, but I think my prettiest days are behind me. The good news is, though, that pretty isn’t the same as beautiful. See, pretty girls are a dime a dozen, but women of authentic beauty are another story. They are hard to find.

So this is my beauty goal: that the older I get the more {inwardly} beautiful I will become.

The unsexier, older I get, the more outward-focused I hope I will be. The wiser, kinder, more compassionate I hope I will become.

Your prettiest days might be behind you, but your most beautiful days (if you choose to accept them) have arrived.

Do you feel like your “prettiest” days are behind you?

Great post! I couldn’t agree more with your new motto. Rather than dwell on the prettiness we are lacking, we should focus on cultivating lasting beauty as we age. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
