Eighty percent of success is showing up. — Woody Allen
It hit me two minutes into Spin class. All I had to do was get there. The peddling, the sprinting, the hill climbs — they came naturally, almost easily. I actually loved it. But showing up, that was the hard part. Getting my work out clothes on, jumping in the car, driving into the gym and walking into class — that took effort. Lately, when it comes to my work outs I haven’t been showing up. I’ve been in hiding. I feel inadequate now having once been a competitive athlete.
A run around the block, a quick surf, an evening walk, thirty minutes on the elliptical, in my mind doesn’t seem like enough. So too often I don’t do anything. I’m realizing in this season, I have to show up for my life especially when it comes to my fitness.
I think we all go through seasons where showing up for things is a challenge. Whether it’s class, a relationship, your job or the gym. What I’m learning is that we as human beings are pretty amazing. Not in an egotistical way, but because we are created in the image of God. I believe that almost always, once we show up, our amazingness takes it from there. Success begins with just showing up.
What area of your life has it been a struggle to show up for?
