How to Change Your Mind, Brain, and Life

you can be transformed…

Yesterday when I watched Paul surf, I was fighting “stinkin’ thinking” as my mom would say.

My life is full of beauty and goodness, yet it’s so natural for this mind of mine to dwell on the “have nots” and “what if’s.”

So I finally memorized Galatians 5:22. Okay, so it’s only been 24 hours since I’ve been saying it nonstop on repeat, but it’s changing things.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Let’s meditate on that again. The fruit of the Spirit (the presence of Jesus living in us) is:

LOVE
JOY
PEACE
PATIENCE
KINDNESS
GOODNESS
FAITHFULLNESS
GENTLENESS
SELF-CONTROL

And then I memorized the Philippians 4:8:

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Let’s meditate on that again. “Whatever is:

GOOD
NOBLE
RIGHT
PURE
LOVELY
ADMIRABLE
EXCELLENT
PRAISEWORTHY

Romans 12:2 assures us that our minds, brains, and lives can be transformed:

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

As we abide in Christ and blossom with the fruit of His spirit, and mediate on all that is good, lovely, and true, our brains physiologically form new neural pathways. This is known as (neuroplasticity) stopping those ANTS (automatic negative thoughts) and changing them into more positive thoughts that then change our emotions and behavior.

I’ve found that continually renewing my mind with Biblical truth changes things.

The Lord knows I’m a slow learner and need help everyday. His strength is “made perfect in my weakness.” His word brings me peace and hope for the good days and hard days.

I hope these verses I shared help you fight back the lies in your mind and be reminded of what is good, lovely and true.
