I dedicated “Social Media Reset” to my surf cowboy. 😍 We met in a little stucco church with teal-framed windows on the Panama Canal when I was on a mission trip and he was on a mission to surf. I say the once-saddest girl met the happiest boy. He is the most loveable man you’ll ever meet and fills my life with laughter, joy, and adventure. He’s also the best surfer and keeps getting better with age.
I want you to meet the man who has empowered me to be the fully alive woman I am today. I wouldn’t be who I am without him. He’s supported me through 20 years of ministry, during which I often earned less than unemployment.
Dear girls, there are good and worthy men out there. Do not compromise. Do not give your body away. Do not settle. Seek God first. Become the best version of yourself and follow God’s calling on your life. Live modestly. Humbly. Unfollow the ways of the world that lead to destruction and follow the ways of God that lead to life and the fullness of joy. Your integrity, faith, character, and inner beauty will attract good and worthy men if marriage is God’s plan for you. You are much better off single than in a relationship with a guy who doesn’t cherish and respect you, and who doesn’t lead you.
Also, life is so short. We never know when we will lose someone we love. One of my dear friends lost her husband last year. I can’t even imagine. Unplug, be present with the people in your life, serve them, encourage them, and build them up. Our lives are short. Fleeting. Irreplaceable. We are like a flower quickly fading – here today and gone tomorrow. And when we leave this world, we will only have our legacy, and our people will only have memories of us, and they will especially remember how we treated them and made them feel. Now, put your phone down, look up, take a walk, call a friend, make memories, and go and love your people.
