Last night I dreamt I was on a tall, high bridge that hovered above a heavy, midnight gray mist. Seemingly miles below was a dark, deep ocean. In my hand were notes. I didn’t know what the notes said, but they contained God-breathed words. They were hope notes. One by one, I dropped them into the abyss. I don’t know how I got on that bridge, but I knew I was on there for one mission — to shower them down to those drowning in a sea of darkness below.
I didn’t know who would receive them or where they would go. I didn’t know their names, and I couldn’t see their faces. But I knew countless souls were down there, and I knew they were nearly drowning. There were a lot of them, and they were precious, kind, and smart girls full of potential.
God spoke to me in this dream. I know He has called me to share the story of how He rescued me and restored my life from depression. Today, one in three teen girls seriously contemplate attempting suicide, and three in five feel persistently sad and hopeless. They are at the epicenter of a social media-induced mental health crisis. Since 2010, the suicide rate among girls ages 12 to 17 has increased by 145% and emergency room visits for self-harm have increased by 188%.
I just heard of the suicide of a twelve-year-old girl—death by her own hands. This is tragic and unacceptable and must end. As long as God allows, Wonderfully Made, and I hope to be used as a humble vessel to share the love and hope of Christ with girls and young women drowning in shame and hopelessness, and prevent further loss of life.
We just launched a suicide prevention campaign through YouTube, which shares the life-changing message with young women of what it means to be loved and created by God with a purpose. I share my story in this ad to give them hope and we link to a landing page that share the Gospel and provides resources such as a crisis hotline. For just four cents a view, this has been viewed over 108,000 times with one million impressions, and an average watch time of one minute and eight seconds. Unheard of for a paid ad. And we are just getting started.
Please pray for the lives of teen girls and young women — that they will come to know Christ and their value, identity, and purpose. That there will be a revival and a cultural shift from one of hopelessness and darkness to hope and light.
We each have different hope notes for different people, and we must share them as often as we can, however we can. There are seasons of stormy waters and seasons of smooth ones. Seasons of joy and seasons of sorrow. What waters do you find yourself in today?
If someone handed you a hope note, what would you need it to say? If you are swimming through serene waters, what would you tell someone gasping for air?
