Last weekend we had our young women’s retreat at See Canyon Fruit Ranch on the beautiful coast of San Luis Obispo. 200 young women and the women who love them gathered for a set-apart day to grow in God and discover their true value, identity, and purpose. I had the privilege of speaking about what we were created for, and I want to share with you the three main points I taught the girls.
I grew up in a high-pressured, an image-focused culture that told me my purpose in life is to be perfect, pretty, popular, and successful. Thankfully, my life fell apart at the age of 18 when I found myself in a deep depression. That led me to be transformed by the perfect love of Christ while I was in a psychiatric hospital. Through a whisperd prayer, I surrendered my life and promised to stop living for myself and to start living for God.
That put me on a beautiful and glorious adventure and has empowered me to step into my full purpose, which is so much better than the one social media and the world tells us we were created for. When you live for God, you will find your best life, and discover why you are really here.
Jesus gave us the clearest, most powerful purpose we could ever live for:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Love your neighbor as yourself.”
— Mark 12:30–31
That’s our main purpose in life. The most important thing we can do with our lives.
This is our core purpose:
- Love God and others
- Share His love
- Honor Him with our lives
- Enjoy His blessings and the gift of life
The following verse is one of my favorites, and it makes a deeper dive into why we were here and how God created us to spend our days:
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
— Ephesians 2:10
Here are three life-giving truths to help you live with purpose right now, which I shared with the girls:
1. You Are God’s Masterpiece
You not an accident.
You did not get here from random cosmic collisions.
You were lovingly and wonderfully handcrafted by God with awe, dignity, purpose and worth.
- He did not have to create you—but He loved you into existence.
- He chose you before the foundation of the world.
- Every heartbeat, every breath in your lungs is a sign of His intentional design.
You are His masterpiece—created with awe, dignity, and worth.
You are the crown of His creation.
Let that sink in.
2. You Were Made to Do Good and Beautiful Things Only You Can Do
God wrote a story for your life that no one else can star in.
There are good things, meaningful things, beautiful things, that only you were created to do.
- Maybe it’s rescuing the oppressed.
- Maybe it’s mentoring kids.
- Maybe it’s raising a family, starting a business, or caring for those the world forgets.
- Maybe it’s simply shining the light of Jesus in your everyday life.
You were created for lives of purpose and greatness—not for fame or popularity, but for impact. To be girls and women of influence, which is far better than being a social media influencer could ever be.
Without God’s transformation, I’d still be chasing perfection and popularity.
Wonderfully Made wouldn’t even exist. I’d be living and empty and meaningless life.
God gave you gifts, talents, and a unique story to tell.
You were created to:
- Share the radical love of Jesus that heals us and sets us free
- Love justice and walk humbly with God
- Bring hope to the brokenhearted
- To love the “least of these” — those the world say don’t have much worth
- Tell girls that their bodies are good and they are wonderfully made
- Shine light into the darkest corners of our world
- Become not just social media influencers—but women of true influence
There’s joy and freedom waiting on the other side of stepping into your calling.
3. To Live Into Your Purpose, You Must Leave Worthless Things Behind
“Turn my eyes away from worthless things; give me life in Your ways.”
— Psalm 119:37
The world is full of distractions and vanities that will keep us from a better life.
Foolish things. Shiny things. Empty things.
You get to choose:
What kind of woman do you want to be?
What kind of legacy do you want to leave?
One of the most beautiful examples I’ve ever seen is my friend Netta Jones.
I only knew her for a few years, but her life made a deep impact. She had lived the “sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll” life—but then, she met Jesus.
She was completely transformed.
She left her past behind and lived fully for God.
Her life, her joy, her radiant spirit—left a legacy of purpose, love, and beauty.
Friend, take time to reflect and ask yourself:
What do I want my legacy to be?
What kind of woman do I want to become?
How do I want to spend my one and only tour around this planet?
When I get to the end of my life, what will it take to say I did all I could do with the time God gave me?
Live Like You Were Made for This
As you go about your week, here are four things to remember:
- You are God’s masterpiece.
- To step into your purpose, you must be transformed.
- You were created to do good and beautiful things only you can do.
- To fulfill your purpose, you must leave worthless things behind.
You were created on purpose and for a purpose.
You were made for a life that matters—a life that shines light, brings love, and leaves beauty behind wherever you go.
Know Jesus. Know your value. And live a meaningful, beautiful life of purpose and joy — the life you were created for!
