When social media has been a big part of your everyday life, taking an extended break from it can feel disorienting! All of a sudden, it’s quiet, and you might not know what to do with your hands! And all the extra time you’ll get back a month…which, for most people, is over 60-90 hours! And over a hundred for many.
At first, it will be uncomfortable (withdrawal is a real thing!) and you’ll want to reach for your phone, but I want to encourage you to resist the temptation! You can do it! There’s a way better life waiting for you offline. Your reset can become a time of renewal, deep joy, and restoration. It will reset your brain’s pathways, heart, and soul and make you feel less anxious and happier after a few days.
Here are some practices that can support and inspire you as you embrace a social media reset:
1. Plan Your Week
Before Monday rolls in, take 30 quiet minutes to map out the week ahead.
Ask yourself: What would make this a beautiful and intentional week?
- Schedule in margin—not just to-dos.
- Prioritize relationships, not just chores and responsibilites.
- Include time for rest, movement, creativity, and connection.
When you plan ahead, you’re more likely to live with purpose instead of reacting to the demands of the day.
2. Plan Your Days
Each morning (or the night before), spend a few minutes setting your intentions for the day. It doesn’t have to be rigid—think of it as creating a rhythm, not a checklist.
- What are 1–3 things that would make today meaningful?
- What time will you unplug and rest?
- Who might God be inviting you to love or encourage today?
Planning your day helps you steward your time well—and when you’re not scrolling, you might be surprised how much time you actually have.
3. Set Goals
Use this reset as a chance to dream again. Set small, soulful goals that bring you joy and help you grow.
- What’s something you’ve always wanted to learn?
- Is there a habit you want to break—or build?
- What’s one goal that supports your mental, physical, or spiritual well-being?
Write them down. Keep them visible. Celebrate your progress.
4. Have Time with God
This is the most life-giving rhythm you can cultivate. Without the constant noise of all the voices and noises of social media, you’re creating space to actually hear from God.
- Start your day with Scripture and prayer.
- Keep a journal where you talk to Him throughout the day.
- Sit in silence and simply be with Him.
The time you used to give to social media—give that time to God instead. He’s not looking for perfection, just your presence.
5. Do Something Creative With Your Hands
There’s something healing about using your hands to create something beautiful.
- Cook a nourishing meal.
- Try watercolor or pottery.
- Garden, knit, write in your journal, or build something.
Creativity grounds us. It reconnects us with the real, tangible world—and reminds us of the joy of simply being human.
6. Get Outside
Even 10 minutes of fresh air can change your mood. Nature gently pulls us out of our heads and back into the present.
- Go for a walk without your phone.
- Watch the sunrise or sunset.
- Sit under a tree and just breathe.
Let creation remind you that life is bigger and more beautiful than a screen could ever show you.
7. Daydream
Yes, really. Let yourself stare out the window. Imagine. Wonder. Dream.
- What does your ideal life look like?
- What story is God writing with your life?
- What passions have you buried that might be ready to reawaken?
Without constant input, you get to hear your own thoughts again. Let yourself dream wild and free.
I hope these practices will help you as you rediscover a better way to live. You don’t need to fill every moment. You just need to be present in the ones you’re given.
