Hi friend, I’m excited for you to do a 30-day social media reset. I know it might be scary to even think about unplugging from it for 30 days, but I’m confident you’ll be glad you did. It’ll be hard for a few days, and then you’ll begin to feel happier, less anxious, and more joyful. Here are seven steps to prepare for your social media reset.
Here’s how to start your reset:
1. Get a copy of “Social Media Rest” (physical copy or audio version)
This will guide you through the experience. There are 30 different daily reflections and devotions on principles and wisdom for our flourishing life. It will take just 5 minutes to read!
2. Invite the women in your friend group, community, or church to join you.
This journey to reset your soul and reclaim your joy by unplugging for 30 days is best done with your friends or women in your church and community. Sign up to join me and Wonderfully Made online here starting August 1st.
3. Recognize Social Media’s Impact
Our souls weren’t made for the digital and social-media-obsessed world we live in. Endless scrolling, addictive notifications, and constant news are too much for us to bear. In the book, there is a quiz that will help you assess how it is affecting you. You can also take my social media quiz here.
4. Ask Yourself Tough Questions
How does social media make you feel? How do you feel about yourself after being on it? How is it impacting your well-being and your relationship with God and others? Your time away will help you break any dependence, reset your brain’s pathways, gain perspective, and make changes.
5. Make a Plan for Your Time
Go to your phone’s settings and look at your screen time. Write down your average daily social media usage and multiply it by 30. That’s how much time you’ll get back this month. Make an exciting plan for what you want to do with it instead! Fill your days with the people, hobbies, and activities that bring you the most joy.
6. Delete the Apps
Before Day 1 officially begins, ensure you have your usernames and passwords saved. Then delete the apps from your phone and other devices. When you look for your apps, tap the Bible app instead—or call a friend, read a book, walk, journal, or do something fun for yourself.
7. Do Cool Things and Live Your Life to the Fullest!
If possible, do this reset with other women for accountability and joy. Invite friends, or the women in your church or community group, to join you. Share weekly meals, talk on the phone instead of texting, and build connections you’ll never find online.
7. Remember What’s at Stake
Our time on earth is short. James 4:14 says, “What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” God wants you to live wide awake to the miracle of your one and only precious life. Don’t let social media keep you from it. Seconds become minutes, become hours, become days, become years we’ll never get back. Let’s live wisely and leave a beautiful legacy.
Friend, I know you can do this, and you’ll be so glad you did. Are you ready to get your life back? Your joy back? Let the adventure of living your best life in God begin!
